Hardware and Software Architecture
Hardware Architecture
The JH7110 DevKit uses the Ampak AIC8800 combo module, which integrates both WiFi and
Bluetooth functionality in a single package:
| Interface | JH-7110 Bus | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | SDIO | Wireless LAN data transmission |
| Bluetooth | HCI (UART) | Short-range wireless device connectivity |
Wi-Fi Software Architecture
The Wi-Fi software package of JH7110 contains following files:
- Dongle Host Driver (DHD): WLAN adapter host driver. The Dongle Host Driver (DHD) is the executable module that provides encapsulated communication between the host device and the Ampak module over the SDIO bus.
- Dongle device firmware: WLAN adapter device firmware
Benefits of the dongle architecture include:
- Power saving
- Reduced driver size and complexity
- Processor offloading for activities such as checksum calculation and Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) execution
Bluetooth Software Architecture
JH-7110 uses BlueZ as the Linux Bluetooth stack. It provides
support for core Bluetooth layers and protocols. It consists of following
components: Figure 1. BlueZ Overview Diagram
- HCI Core
- HCI UART, USB and Virtual HCI device drivers
- L2CAP protocol module
- Configuration and testing utilities
In the JH-7110 Bluetooth subsystem, UART is used as the Host Controller Interface and AIC8800 is used as the Bluetooth hardware.
